Module 2 – Designing and implementing projects with scaling up in mind
ExpandNet/WHO’s “Beginning with the end in mind” approach
This module corresponds to Phase I of ExpandNet’s systematic approach to scaling up, namely designing and implementing pilot and demonstration projects with future scale in mind. Based on ExpandNet/WHO’s guidance and practical experience from several countries, the module guides learners through a process to increase the potential for sustainable and successful scale-up. Specifically, the module:
- Explains the concept of “beginning with the end in mind” and its importance for future sustainability and scale-up.
- Identifies 12 recommendations for designing more sustainable and scalable intervention packages and demonstrates how they have been used to achieve stronger results.
- Provides a checklist that learners can use in real time to assess scaling potential and identify areas requiring further action.
- Introduces a real-life case study that will be used throughout Modules 2-4 to illustrate key concepts and gives learners a chance to apply the skills they gain through the curriculum.
